Frequently Asked Questions – ProJoint™ RapidFlow™
How long does RapidFlow take to cure?
RapidFlow is typically ready for light foot traffic within 24 hours. However, curing time may be extended in colder or wetter conditions.
How should I maintain the joints?
Regular sweeping helps prevent dirt, leaves, and weeds from settling into the joints. For more thorough cleaning, use ProJoint™ Black Spot and Algae Remover to lift algae and embedded grime.
Can RapidFlow be used on natural stone as well as porcelain?
Yes, RapidFlow is compatible with both porcelain and natural stone, making it ideal for a wide range of paving projects.
What weather conditions are suitable for application?
RapidFlow can be applied in light rain, but avoid using it during heavy rain or freezing temperatures as this can interfere with the curing process.
Can I re-use RapidFlow after opening the tub?
Once opened, exposure to air starts the curing process. To preserve unused material, submerge it in water inside the tub to block oxygen – this can extend its usability for up to one month.
Where can RapidFlow be used?
RapidFlow is perfect for use on patios, paths, and other pedestrian areas constructed with porcelain, natural stone, or concrete paving.
Is RapidFlow permeable?
Yes, RapidFlow is water-permeable. It allows rainwater to drain through the joints, helping prevent surface pooling and waterlogging.
Why does the bedding mortar need to be permeable?
Because RapidFlow cures as it dries, moisture must have a way to escape. A permeable bedding layer prevents water from becoming trapped in the joints, which could lead to softening of the binder or algae growth.
What is a permeable bedding mix?
A bedding mortar with a sand-to-cement ratio of 5:1 or higher is considered permeable. Purpose-made permeable mortars can also be used.
Can I pressure wash paving after using RapidFlow?
Yes, but only after it has fully cured – around 30 days. Always use a fan nozzle and keep the lance at a safe distance to avoid damaging the joints.
What’s the difference between RapidFlow and epoxy jointing compounds?
RapidFlow is an air-curing resin compound, ideal for everyday use. Epoxy-based options like ProJoint™ TITAN or V400 offer even greater strength and durability, but require a more specialised application process.
