An ABEK1P3 face mask is designed to protect against a wide range of hazardous substances. Here’s what each rating means:
-

-
B – Inorganic gases and vapors (e.g., chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and hydrogen cyanide).
-
E – Acidic gases and vapors (e.g., sulfur dioxide, hydrochloric acid vapors).
-
K – Ammonia and organic ammonia derivatives (e.g., methylamine).
-
1 – Low-capacity filter for gas protection.
-
P3 – Highest level of particulate filtration, protecting against toxic dust, fumes, and aerosols (e.g., asbestos, silica dust, and viruses).
Suitable for:
-
Spray painting
-
Chemical handling
-
Pesticide application
-
Industrial cleaning
-
Laboratory work
-
Asbestos removal
-
Welding (if gases match the filter's specifications)
Not suitable for:

An ABEK1P3 mask provides good protection against sodium hypochlorite (bleach) fumes and biocidal products like benzalkonium chloride (BAC) and didecyldimethylammonium chloride (DDAC) under normal exposure conditions.
Here’s how it performs against each chemical:
-
Sodium Hypochlorite (NaClO) – "Bleach"
-
Protection: The E (acid gases) filter helps protect against chlorine gas, which can be released when sodium hypochlorite decomposes or reacts with acids.
-
-
Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) & Didecyldimethylammonium Chloride (DDAC) (Quaternary Ammonium Compounds – "Quats")
-
Protection: The K filter (ammonia & amine-based compounds) should offer protection against vapors from BAC and DDAC.
-
Please note:- These masks are semi-disposable & can be used for up to 28 days (dependent on the environment they are used in).
If the user is able to smell or taste chemicals / fumes through the mask then the mask must be disposed of immediately.
