Frequently Asked Questions – ProJoint™ Fusion™
How long does Fusion take to cure?
Fusion typically cures enough for foot traffic in around 24 hours. Curing time can vary depending on the weather. Colder or wetter conditions may delay the curing process significantly.
What is the best way to maintain my joints?
Keeping your paving joints clean is easy. Sweep the area regularly to remove leaves, dirt, and debris. This helps prevent weeds from taking root. For a deeper clean to tackle algae or dirt, our ProJoint Black Spot and Algae Remover is highly effective.
Can it be used on porcelain tiles?
Fusion is not recommended for porcelain tiles. Due to their low porosity, porcelain tiles require a specialist jointing compound. We recommend using ProJoint RapidFlow. The application method is the same, but RapidFlow cures harder and adheres better to porcelain.
What weather conditions can I apply Fusion in?
Fusion can be applied in light rain, so there is no need to worry if the weather turns slightly damp. However, it should not be used during heavy rainfall or freezing temperatures, as it will not cure properly.
Can I open the tub and re-use it later?
Once opened, exposure to air will begin the curing process. To preserve any leftover product, return it to the tub and submerge it fully in water. This excludes oxygen and can extend the shelf life for up to a month.
Where is Fusion used?
Fusion is ideal for natural stone and concrete patios, garden paths, and other pedestrian-only paved areas.
Is Fusion permeable?
Yes. A key benefit of Fusion is its permeability, allowing water to pass through the joints. This helps reduce surface water and prevents puddling.
Why should the bedding mortar be permeable?
Fusion cures as it dries, so water needs an escape route. A permeable bedding mix allows moisture to drain away, preventing water from collecting in the joints. Stagnant water can soften the binder over time and promote algae growth.
What does ‘permeable bedding mix’ mean?
A bedding mix with a ratio of sand to cement of 5:1 or greater is considered permeable. Alternatively, you can use a purpose-made permeable bedding mortar.
Can you pressure wash Fusion?
Yes, but only after it has fully cured—this typically takes around 30 days. Use a fan nozzle and maintain a safe distance to avoid damaging the joints.
What’s the difference between Fusion resin and epoxy?
Fusion is a resin-based jointing compound that cures through exposure to air, making it simple to apply and ideal for DIY projects. Epoxy compounds cure chemically, offering higher strength for heavy-duty areas, but require more careful application and dry conditions.
